India: Draft Rules Released for Automotive Radars in 77–81 GHz Band under Public Consultation

The Ministry of Communications has released draft rules titled:

"Use of Short-Range Automotive Radar System in the 77 to 81 GHz Band (Exemption from Assignment Requirement) Rules, 2025."

Objective: To allow license-free operation of short-range automotive radar systems operating in the 77–81 GHz band.

Key Highlights:

  1. Automotive radars operating in the 77–81 GHz band will be exempted from individual frequency assignments. Currently, only the 76–77 GHz band is exempt from licensing requirements.

  2. All equipment must be type-approved and meet the parameters mentioned in the GSR.

Stakeholders can submit their comments on the draft notification by 25 Dec 2025 to the Joint Secretary (Telecom), Department of Telecommunications
