Almost all countries have mandatory certification systems and requirements in place for telecommunication equipment. This includes wireless/radio equipment, telecommunications apparatus (terminal equipment which connect directly to the public switched telephone network), broadcasting equipment, and other interference-causing equipment. If you intend to sell your products containing such technologies/functions in multiple countries, it is critical to understand country-specific requirements, standards and regulations, as well as the possibility of leveraging US FCC and EU RED test reports to demonstrate compliance for type approval and market acceptance.
Some countries have separate certification schemes for Radio and Telecom, such as China SRRC for Radio and NAL certification for Telecom; the majority of countries combine them together under one Type Approval program, for example Saudi CITC type approval.
Radio equipment refers to any device or equipment with a radio transmitter. This includes mobile (GSM or CDMA) handsets, wireless LAN (WLAN) equipment such as Wi-Fi devices, Bluetooth devices, Zigbee devices, WiMAX and other wireless broadband access devices, RFID equipment, contactless card readers, and a whole host of other products that incorporate some kind of RF transmitter.
Typical telecommunications apparatus on market from the consumer side are private switches, modems, routers, etc.
