Hong Kong: OFCA issued new technical specifications for LTE, 5G NR, and Wi-Fi 6E devices

The Hong Kong Office of The Communications Authority (OFCA) has released three new technical specifications covering following technology: LTE, 5G NR, and Wi-Fi 6E devices.  

 The summary of the key points for product compliance and certification relative these specification is as below:   

1. TAC 014 Issue 1 (LTE Equipment): Introduces type acceptance requirements for LTE (E-UTRA) user equipment operating in the 1880–1920 MHz band.

It mainly applies to LTE phones, routers, and IoT products. Key points:   -Frequency band: 1880–1920 MHz (unpaired) -Applies to: LTE-enabled products such as smartphones, routers, and IoT terminals -Standards: ETSI EN 301 908-1, EN 301 908-13, 3GPP TS 36.521-1 -Products using this band should follow TAC 014 when applying for Hong Kong approval   

2. HKCA 1085 Issue 1 (5G NR Equipment): Sets out the technical specs for 5G NR equipment, covering frequencies from 703 MHz up to 28.35 GHz, including the 6 GHz (6425–7125 MHz) band. Key points:   -Frequency range: 703 MHz – 28.35 GHz -Standards: ETSI EN 301 908-1 / 908-25; 3GPP TS 38.521-1, -2, -3 -Covers both Range 1 and Range 2 standalone operation -Products targeting Hong Kong should be tested according to HKCA 1085   

3. HKCA 1081 Issue 2 (Aug 2025) (Wi-Fi 6E Devices): The latest version of HKCA 1081 updates the 6 GHz WLAN rules for Hong Kong, defining spectrum usage and power limits for indoor and outdoor applications. Key points:   -Band: 5.945–6.425 GHz (5.925–5.945 GHz reserved as guard band) -Power limits: Indoor 24 dBm EIRP / Outdoor 14 dBm EIRP -Equipment classes: Low Power Indoor (LPI), Very Low Power (VLP) -Reference: ETSI EN 303 687
