The India MEITY office had held meeting dated 11th July 2025 regarding the implementation of IS/IEC 62368-1:
Update the the key highlights of the meeting are as follows:
MEITY may release a formal order in the next couple of months, if comments/concerns are submitted within the next two weeks.
A 3-year grace/transition period is expected from the date of formal order, during which IS 13252/IS 616 and IS/IEC 62368-1 will run concurrently.
All suggestions/recommendations about revised series grouping can be shared within 2 weeks to MEITY.
Current discussion suggests all models may require testing under the new standard; however, the industry has proposed testing only lead models.
With the new standard implementation, a total of 27 product categories under IS 13252 and 13 under IS 616 are likely to be impacted, which accounts for nearly 50% of registrations.
A separate category for AR/VR products is expected under the mandatory scheme of BIS within 6 to 12 months of formal order.
Product categories where regulatory overlap exists, like Video conferencing equipment, may cover it exclusively under BIS; a separate order is expected from the Ministry soon.
MEITY may consider exemptions for a limited quantity under the old IS 13252/IS 616 standards for after-sales and service products.
