Qatar CRA has issued a decision in August 2024 for cessation 3G by the end of 2025, all devices supporting multiple network technologies must be updated to disable support for the phased-out 2G and 3G bands before being shipped to Qatar. This measure is part of the country’s ongoing efforts to modernize its telecom infrastructure and fully transition to advanced mobile technologies.
To meet this requirement, importers are now obligated to submit an official declaration from the main manufacturer. This declaration must be signed and stamped, explicitly confirming that the device’s 2G and 3G functionalities have been permanently disabled. Additionally, the declaration must affirm that the device is fully compatible with Voice over LTE (VoLTE), ensuring continued voice service functionality on Qatar’s LTE networks.
Devices that do not comply with these specifications risk being denied entry into the country or experiencing delays in the type approval process.
