ANATEL published recently the new Act 7971 with the technical requirements for IPv6 protocol compliance assessment in Telecommunication products. This new Act will come into force on January 8th, 2024.
This Act updated the requirements for IPv6 for products with WWAN, xPON, xDSL, and DOCSIS. Additionally, this standard has the following main changes:
Changed the IPv6 standard RFC 2460 to the new RFC 8200 for the Mobile Service (WWAN).
Formalize that for products using WWAN modules already approved by ANATEL where the entire IPv6 protocol is implement in the WWAN module (not by the host), it is possible to carry out only the IPv6 protocol verification or testing only RFC 8200 would be enough to demonstrate the host meets ANATEL IPv6 requirements. Moreover, manufacturer will need to sign a declaration informing that the IPv6 protocol is fully integrated in the module.
However, for products that the IPv6 protocol is fully or partially implemented in the host’s software/firmware (E.g., implemented in Operational System), it is required to perform all the IPv6 tests again.
Regarding the tests, the major change in the new Act compared with the actual IPv6 requirement is the replacement of the RFC 2460 standard by the RFC 8200. The other testing requirements remained the same. Below is the table with the required IPv6 standards for each technology:
TYPE OF PRODUCT | 3GPP TS 36.523-1 | ETSI TS 102 514 | RFC 8200 (NEW STANDARD) | RFC 7084 |
WWAN without 3G/4G (*) | NA | NA | NA | NA |
WWAN with up to 3G, without 4G | NA | Applied | Applied | NA |
WWAN with 3G/4G | Applied | Applied | Applied | NA |
xPON, xDSL, or DOCSIS | NA | NA | NA | Applied |
Note (*): WWAN 2G and 5G NR does not need IPv6 testing.
